I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. I work with children, adolescents and adults. In addition, I am also a Child Group Therapist with Familywise Northwest. In this position, I teach social skills and emotion coaching for children ages four through eight.
I have experience working with a variety of clients and have enjoyed many cross-cultural experiences working with children in Russia, Uganda, Kenya, and Mexico. In addition, I worked in an ESL classroom with refugees from over seven different nations. I am passionate about other cultures and sensitive as to how that changes and impacts the counseling relationship.
Through my work at Providence Hospice and Home Care, I worked with clients of a variety of ages and backgrounds in grief counseling. In addition to individual counseling, I also co-facilitated groups and was a Big Buddy at Camp Erin, which is a grief camp for children and teens. While at Providence, I walked alongside clients in their grief journey and provided space for them to share their stories about their loved one. I found grief counseling to be humbling work as clients allowed me to be a part of one of the hardest times of their lives.
A love for working with children has been a predominant theme in my life. I have worked with children in a variety of roles including camp counselor, children’s staff member at a church, nanny, and group therapist. I make it a point to acknowledge children wherever I am with a smile and even strike up a conversation with them. In return, children have walked up to me at Starbucks and the grocery store and started talking to me.
The relationship between counselor and client is the most important part of therapy and lays a foundation for the sessions. I desire to provide a warm and safe environment where clients feel comfortable to share. Part of therapy is wondering aloud and asking the right questions to uncover what is going on. I strive to be an attentive listener and believe that change happens through the therapeutic relationship.
